Looking for an adventure that is not only challenging, spontaneous, and fun -- but also one that helps other people? Boston Cares has an exciting day for you!
On Saturday, April 28, join hundreds of other Bostonians in the Dash for a Difference, a "race through Boston neighborhoods on a quest to help others, learn about our city, and raise funds for Boston Cares."
You'll get a chance to engage in a series of quick, short-term volunteer opportunities, while at the same time exploring Greater Boston and solving puzzles along the way. Think of it as a scavenger hunt that helps others at the same time.
Teams will start at 9 am sharp, when each team will receive the first of the 8-10 destinations they will visit. At each destination, teams must complete tasks in order to have their passport stamped and receive their clue to the next destination. Most tasks will be mini volunteer projects, while a few will be learning-oriented, where teams must piece together clues to gain points; and some will be “just for fun” assignments. Team starts will be staggered across the route to minimize bottlenecks at agencies.
As this event is a fundraiser, and each person on a teame is required to raise $100, however, your $25 registration fee applies to that, so you only need to raise just $75 to qualify. That's peanuts! Enlist your friends, families, and coworkers, and you'll have the minimum donation in no time... and no need to stop there; prizes are in the mix for the top fundraisers (note: this is not an official BostonSOS event, and all proceeds go to Boston Cares).
If you'd like to participate in this event, you've got a few options:
- Join a BostonSOS team! Based on interest and availability, we'll be able to field any number of teams (prizes also available for team creativity!). Want to reconnect with the new friends you met at the No-Pants Subway Ride? Interested in meeting new people and volunteering with other like-minded Bostonians? Want to participate but need a few more team members? Let us know! We'll take care of building the teams and registration. E-mail nick @ bostonsos.org if you're interested. Space is limited, first-come first-served.
- Register your own team independently! Again, this event is not affiliated with BostonSOS, so there's no need to let us know you're doing it (although we're always excited to hear about the adventures our fellow Bostonians encounter). If you want to register a team on your own, visit the Boston Cares page.
Hope to see you there!
